After a crazy few days, the Tart Vol 4 Kickstarter has moved from rolling river of support to a steady trickle of a mountain creek. That’s how almost every campaign goes, so I’m still very happy with the start (and happier with the metaphor!).
To all who have backed already, THANK YOU! We’re marching toward our goal on your shoulders, and we hope you know how much that means to us.
If you are planning to back the campaign, hopping on with us now will really help the campaign continue its momentum. The Premium and Limited Edition hardcover is the nicest thing we do, and we already try to deliver a top of the line experience in every book we produce.
Whether you want to back today, or can share the campaign, or both; here is the link:
While 95% of my Comic focus is on the Kickstarter these days, there are always things baking (sometimes burning) behind the scenes. One of them is that completed Black and White Art is starting to come in for the Tart/Crossover Division one shot that will be completed later this year.
If you don’t remember, or are just hearing about that, it’s fine. The quick story is that a few years back Will Allred and I were Kickstarting issues of our different series at the same time and asked our artist buddies Kyle Roberts (line art) and Ryan Kroboth (colors) if they could draw a little crossover print with our characters for backers of both campaigns. They answered with this:
His two characters Hank and Hector, and my lead Tart Acid struggling to contain the mythological Minotaur!
Will and I loved it for nothing more than a great piece of fun art. And then one of us (I honestly don’t remember who, and I don’t think Will does either) had a brief flash of HOW all four characters above could arrive at the exact same place and time.
As an exercise we decided to write the darn thing. Not to have it made, just to see where it went. Then we liked it enough to get serious. We eventually hired Tina Valentino who had done multiple covers for Will) to illustrate the interiors.
Final pages are starting to arrive. Here’s one dynamic page I can share because it doesn’t have any spoilers.
We’re really getting excited to share this, but I’m happy I get to tease it a little now.
If you haven’t heard about Crossover Division it is a sci fi/fantasy series about our ancestral love of stories. Each Crossover Division adventure starts with a reader being so engrossed in a work of fiction that they accidentally pull the characters of the story into the real world.
Flying monkeys, Tripods from War of the World’s, Brides of Dracula. It’s utter chaos that Hank and Hector are sent to corral by putting the stories back into their books.
You can catch up with all six chapters of Crossover Division in their current Kickstarter campaign if the series is new to you. Will and I haven’t talked about it, but I bet by the time these campaigns close we’ll figure out a nice little bonus for backers of both of the current campaigns who return for the Crossover Kickstarter.
Kickstart Will's Crossover Division (going to have to work on this one)
I know that I’ll be using any extra funding from Tart Vol 4 to pay for the art of the Crossover. I assume Will is going to do much the same.
So your support doesn’t just affirm current dreams, it funds future ones!
